Podcasted Audio Drama, our definition by Dramapod.com
Podcasted audio drama is perhaps a natural development in the distribution of audio dramas which would previously have been listened to on the radio.
An important distinction between radio dramas and podcasted audio drama is that anyone can create audio dramas in the comfort of their own home and can reach a potentially huge audience via the internet.
We favour a fairly broad definition of podcasted audio drama. We include shows that adhere to a radio drama format such as old time
radio shows
and works that are often longer in length, sometimes classified as audio theatre (UK) or audio theater (US).
However, there may not always be a large cast and sound effects are not always required for a piece of audio to be classed as a drama, for example when the piece is a monologue. We also include
short stories
and
audiobooks
under our definition of podcasted audio drama.
With more audio drama being podcasted it has lead to a situation where listeners have a huge amount of choice. One of the goals of this audio drama podcast directory is to help listeners choose podcasts by indicating the quality of podcasts through listener reviews and ratings out of 5. Our ratings are a consolidated, balanced, opinion created by the listener community to help listeners find quality podcasted audio drama.
